Mission Statement
Over 2000 years ago, the Holy Spirit spoke a word to His Holy Apostles and told them how to order, organize, and ordain the Early Church. The Word that the Holy Spirit spoke in the 3rd Chapter of the Book of Acts was the word - Deacon. For indeed one of the offices that were instituted by the Holy Spirit and revered within the Early church was the Office of the Deacon. Ordained Deacon serves in communion service, baptismal service, weddings, funerals and ordination services. Serves in sensitive areas within the church. Marriage is a requirement.

Men's Ministry
An effective deacon is one who uses the freedom he has found in Christ Jesus to serve others in love while living a Spirit-filled life.
The apostle Paul in Philippians 1:9-11 prayed that deacons may have the following characteristics:
· That their love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.
· That they may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ.
· That they may be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.
· That they may make His joy complete by being likeminded, having the same love, being one in spirit and in purpose, doing nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but looking to fulfill the interests of others. (Philippians 2:2)
· Annual Christmas Banquet
· Deacons' and wives breakfast
· Deacons' Retreat

A PREAMBLE

"Brothers choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them."--Acts 6:1-4
With these words, the early church brethren came together to choose the first deacons of the Christian faith. These men were selected and presented before the leadership (the Apostles) who prayed and laid hands on (ordained) them.

Origin of the Deacon's Ministry

The term "Deacons" in general denotes the service or ministration of the bondservant [doulos], underling [huperetes], or helper [diakonos]. Many believe the origin of the diaconate can be found in the institution of the seven men in Jerusalem who were originally appointed to serve tables [diakonein trapezais] in order to permit the twelve apostles to continue steadfastly in prayer and in ministry [diakonia] of the Word. They were not called deacons [diakonoi], but today we recognize them as our forbears in this unique ministry, a view countenanced by many of the early church leaders.
Mighty, mighty works were done by these seven men, our first deacons, especially Stephen the preacher and Philip the evangelist. The two most noted of the deacons were:

  1. Stephen- a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit. He became the first martyr of the Christian faith and set the standard for all future Christians who came or will come under fire for their faith! God anointed him to perform miracles and speak convincingly in a most articulate manner to other Jews. This so angered the Sanhedrin [the leaders of the religious establishment] that they arrested him on false charges, tried him and then stoned him to death in mob frenzy! While he was dying, he prayed for his killers saying, "Lord do not hold this sin against them" (Acts 7:60).

The Bible tells us that "Saul [the apostle Paul] was there, giving approval to his death!" (Acts 8:1). If Stephen had not prayed, some have wondered would we have had Paul.
  1. Philip- He first started preaching the Christian message to the Gentiles in Samaria. The Word tells us of the miraculous signs and wonders of healing and deliverances God wrought through this deacon (Acts 4:4-8).

The Word tells us that 'The Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away" and he appeared at Azotus, another designation to continue his mission for the Father (Acts 8:39-40). Philip, also known as the evangelist, was a family man with four daughters who prophesied! (Acts 21:7-16).

According to the Laws of First Mentions, these deacons, especially Stephen and Philip, in the Holy Scriptures are the examples set down for all deacons to follow. What mighty examples they are for the Christian who aspires to the office of the deacon or the church that establishes a Diaconate.
